A nice little campground that has a few big pull though sights for the big rigs. Nice bathrooms and really close the the water for some kayaking
I've been a volunteer host here for a few months now. I love working with the staff here to help make the experience of campers a most beautiful, enjoyable & memorable one we can. I myself so enjoy camping, kayaking, snorkeling, swimming and fishing for bass here at one of the worlds top 10 most beautiful rivers, and, sharing all that goodness with other campers that come and go is a great delight. It's refreshing, invigorating, energizing, and so relaxing here in this most beautiful place. I've lived in the Caribbean for years so when I say all this about Rainbow Springs State Parks' beauty, trust me, you won't think I've exaggerated.
It would be really nice if this campground was connected with a walking or biking trial to the Rainbow Springs State Park! At this time, it requires getting back into your car and driving over, although there is no charge if your are a camper.
We love the State Parks for camping. They have spacious sites with lots of foliage. Although our site was a little too hot for the 97 degree temperatures we were experiencing. Some of the outer loop sites tend to have more fully grown trees that provided more shade. There was access to the beautiful clear springs within walking distance of the campsites. That was refreshing. This water access is great for families to step into a small sandy/rocky area (bring water shoes), drop your tube into the Rainbow Springs, or rent a canoe/kayak from the park. If you want to bring your own kayak down to the river, it will require carrying it a distance.
Ranger on duty, Shannon Hunt, was knowledgeable about any and all things regarding the park and just nature and the area in general!!!
Beautiful park sites are at 45 degrees so easy back in with large coach. River is beautiful clear 72 degrees spring water, spring head is a must see. Most sites are in the open but large in size with table and fire ring. Bath houses are clean as well as the grounds, store offers canoe rental but want full day, should offer half day. Store has no real food or drinks only fire wood in summer not sure in winter. Nice quiet place would recommend.
