I am BEYOND disappointed in this behavior towards people in distress. You should be ashamed of yourselves!!
Being law enforcement, you have a duty to keep the peace, and NOT create more panic and anger and discouragement. I watched people get out of their cars and beg for you to listen and allow them to get gas. I watched a sherriff aggressively intimidate these poor, exhausted drivers and forcing them to leave.
The rest of us who have been driving for hours and carrying children, elderly, etc were turned away.
Evacuating Florida for the hurricane was stressful enough. 75 was congested, people were angry and driving wrecklessly so we took the back roads and passed through dunnellon. Most gas stations off the back roads had signs up that they were out of gas. It was scary as we watched our needles reach close to empty. When we came to dunnellon we found that there was a gas station open (a Sunoco along us 41) but the local police and sherrifs were barracaiding the enterance and demanding to see drivers licenses as they were "only serving gas to locals"
